Anna Ruhland 2017
NOVA was such an incredible place of growth for me.
I’m currently earning my bachelors in music, specializing in opera at Mannes School of Music in New York. In my free time I’ve been traveling and learning new languages and enjoying being in new cultures and meeting amazing people all over the world. This summer I’ll be singing the role of Alcina in northern Italy in the opera Alcina by Handel.
I feel so grateful for my time at NOVA because at NOVA I learned early on how to find balance in my studies while also finding time for extracurricular activities and hobbies. A lot of people I knew in high school really struggled with the adjustment from middle school to high school because their schedules became much more rigorous and they were caught off guard, but high school was a smooth transition for me because of how the incredible faculty at NOVA prepared me for the future.
NOVA was such an incredible place of growth for me because of the combination of it being very rigorous and pushing me to do my best work, while also being an incredibly supportive and warm community of the most wonderful people. I am still in contact with a lot of my friends at NOVA all these years later, and I feel so grateful for my teachers at NOVA who helped me become the person and singer that I am today. I got my confidence to sing while studying at NOVA and now I’m studying to be a professional singer, and I know my middle school self would be ecstatic!
